SAT Subject Tests ( previously known as SAT II )
College admissions requirement, DEPENDING ON THE COLLEGE.
** FOR STUDENTS APPLYING TO UC's for FALL 2012 OR AFTER, THEY ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED, much to the anger, frustration, and dismay of College Board, who stands to lose billions in revenue each year.
The NUMBER 1 MISTAKE: I have an A in the class. I don't need to study. Good luck. You'll be in for a surprise when you get your scores back.
Each Subject Test will require, unfortunately, 30 - 40 hours of study time. No joke.
Time: 1-hour Format: 50 - 85 multiple choice questions, depending on test
Scoring:
200 - 800, with 600 decent, 700 good, 750+ very good Subjects
i. Literature
Do I have to take the SAT Subject Tests? NO if you plan to go to a state college or community college.
YES If you plan to go to a UC (soon to be no longer required) or private school, you will need to take AT LEAST two SAT Subjects. Some colleges require three.
How many subject tests should I take? Most kids take 5 - 6, and colleges take the highest scores from different subject areas
Which Subject Tests should I take? Make sure you are taking a class in that subject. Then get the Official SAT Subject Test Study Guide ( the only one with REAL subject tests in it ) and take it. If you score below 550, forget it.
Should I take SAT Subject Math I or Math II? Many schools do NOT accept the Math I, including UC.
Can you take the SAT Reasoning Test & SAT Subject Test on the same day? NO. They are given at the same time, so you can take EITHER SAT or SAT Subject on a given day, but NOT both, and since there are ONLY 7 test dates a year, you need to PLAN AHEAD!!!
How many SAT Subject Tests can I take on one Test Date? You can take 1, 2, or 3. Each test is 1-hour long, and up to 3 can be taken in one day. If the student only takes one exam, after time is called the student leaves.
